How to Decide What to Use a Claude Project For (Before You Start)
I was really tempted to jump straight into a Claude Project. It sounds amazing. You open one, ask a question, and Claude helps you build something.
But then I stopped and asked myself a simple question:
What should my Claude Project actually be about before I start?
From my first post about Claude, I realized something important. If I have the goal — even a messy one — Claude can help me. But if I don’t, the Project doesn’t really have direction.
Claude Projects don’t create the idea.
They follow the idea.
That’s why it helps to decide what you want help with first. Not everything — just one main thing. That doesn’t mean a tiny task. It means one clear purpose. A Project can have many layers inside it, as long as they’re all related to the same goal.
For example, a Project about learning blogging might include writing posts, organizing ideas, and learning tools. Those are layers — but the Project still has one reason it exists.
A safe way to begin
If you’re not sure what your Project should be, start with something you’re already trying to figure out.
That could be:
- understanding a tool
- organizing ideas
- writing your first post
- planning content
- working on a hobby project
You don’t need a big idea.
You don’t need a perfect idea.
Claude Projects aren’t about starting with everything figured out. They work best when you know what you need help with right now.
If it helps, make a short list of things you’re currently learning or working on, and pick one. That’s enough to start.
